Encounters - Scripture Course 08/09

This year's course is called Encounters and it looks at various characters in the Bible who had an encounter with Jesus and was changed. Throughout the year the girls will meet 13 individual characters who met Jesus and through studying the encounter in the relevant Bible passage they will hopefully learn how having an encounter with Jesus can change their lives as well.

BACKGROUND NOTES
These notes are provided to give the leader a brief introduction to the passage and to give them further information in order to help teach the girls.

GET READY- Icebreaker
This section is an 'icebreaker' that will hopefully help the leader introduce the teaching theme for the evening.

GET SET - Bible study
This part of the lesson provides the relevant Bible passage which the leader can read with the girls in one large group or in smaller study groups. You will know your group of girls best so you will therefore know what is the most productive way of studying the Bible.

GO - Practical Application
This final section of the lesson seeks to develop the Bible passage teaching further. The Juniors will use the activities printed in their puzzle books. Seniors and Brigaders will use their journals. This year the journals have again been split into two sections with one being for the Seniors and the other side being for the Brigaders.

GOD AND ME - Prayer
This is a new section introduced for the course in 2009/10. It is designed to be used at the end of the class with the Seniors and Brigaders.

Explorer Course - People who met Jesus

Each week the lesson is based on a character who met Jesus and the relevant Bible passage. Each lesson is then split into different sections in order to help the leader emphasise the teaching point for that particular lesson. It is entirely up to the leader as to how many of these sections they use and they may decide to use some of their own ideas. A brief explanation of each section is listed below:

BIBLE STORY
There is a Bible story provided for you to read to your girls each week. This has been adapted from the Bible passage in order to help the girls understand it better.

ACTIVITY BOOK TIME
The material for this section is printed in the girl's activity book. This year we have introduced colourful stickers for the girls to incorporate into their lesson.

PRAYER TIME
We have provided a prayer for you to say with the girls at some stage during the lesson.

SONG TIME
In most of the lessons there is a song which relates to the Bible story or teaching point.

CRAFT TIME
There is a craft provided for each lesson which is aimed to give you time to chat to the girls about what they have learnt whilst letting them have fun and get messy at the same time!

GAME TIME
For most of the lessons a game has been provided to again reinforce the teaching point.

MEMORY VERSE
We have suggested a memory verse for you to teach your girls alongside the lesson.

BOOKMARK
At the back of these teacher's notes there is a bookmark template for you to use with the girls. This is for the girls to use to place some of their stickers and take home as a reminder of that week's story and to show their family.

CHRISTMAS STORY
This year we have included three lessons within the activity book to be used at Christmas time with the girls.
